The Photography Book
By richardAmazon.com
The concept for this book is simple: 500 photographers, 500 pages. Arranged alphabetically, each of the photographers–from contemporary Dutch cameraman Hans Aarsman to mid-century New York shutterbug James Van Der Zee–gets a full, oversized page. This is the large book squished down to a small format. So the text, which I assume was legible in the original version, is now too small to read comfortably.
It’s impossible to open the book fully to look at the photos without breaking its spine.
When you have spoilt the book by opening it and managed to read the text you’ll wish you hadn’t bothered – it doesn’t give you any insight whatsoever into the associated image.
Even at under £6 this is a waste of money.

The small version of this book is really handy for quick reference, but the writing is very small, the larger version is a heavy book, weighing in at almost 2kg. I love both. 500 iconic pictures from the world’s top photographers of their day. Buy it! You won’t regret it.

When so many photographic books are on technique and equipment, The Photography Book is a refreshing overview of the pictorial aspect of photography. As essential book in any library.

This book was recommended reading for a photography course I’m attending. Bought this paperback version as hardback version was out of stock when I placed my order. Very pleased. Excellent book. Good quality and interesting reading.

When I first started photography this was one of the books I was given and it is an excellent starting point to getting to grips with photographers. It is also an a good reference book for essays or just a perfect coffee table book.
