Is it really necessary to have a SLR camera for A Level photography?

I have a Fujifilm Finepix s1000fd camera (http://www.fuji.co.uk/consumer/digital/digital-cameras/d-slr-long-zoom/finepix-s1000fd-119757). I really badly want to do A Level photography, but I can’t afford to buy a (D)SLR.

Would this camera do me through the course?

Thanks ?
There is a manual mode, and I have used it, and I half get it.

Can anyone recommend a good online guide for SLR photography?

I have a fairly basic SLR camera. Not digital though. Does that matter? I inherited the camera and don’t have the manual. I want to learn more about the camera and photography in general – does anyone know a good starting point?

what are the best universities to study photography in the uk?

i would like to study photography at a university in the uk preferably in or near london.

The areas of photography i am interested in are wildlife/nature, digital and possibly fashion.

what universities can you recommend?

if anyone has studied fashion photography, what kind of things did you do?

Thanks :)
I think I would prefere to do a BA (Hons) in Wildlife Photography or Natural History
